New Music: Daft Punk, ‘Get Lucky’ [+ Edits]
Somewhat unbelievably, Daft Punk’s fourth studio album began taking shape all the way back in 2008, which means that hype for Random Access Memories has been building for all of five years. And it looks set to reach fever pitch as they tease us with more and more tidbits from the upcoming release.
The trailer video for disco throwback track ‘Get Lucky’ aired at the first night of Coachella this month and again during Saturday Night Live on the 13th, promptly sending the internet into a happy little frenzy at the sight of Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers and the French duo all jamming together inside of a mirror ball.
Thankfully, all the excitement seems more than justifiable. With smooth lead vocals from Pharrell and infectiously funky guitar from Rodgers, ‘Get Lucky’ is looking like frontrunner for – to coin an annoying term – summer track of 2013. Unfortunately, if you want to hear more than 1 minute of it, you’re going to have to content yourself for now with the stitched together edits and remixes cropping up around the web. Fortunately, some are pretty fucking good.
